Carpet Cleaning Tips To Eliminate Stains

When you have nice carpet in your home, not only does it feel good, but also can raise the value of the home. No one wants to buy a nice home that has dirty and stained carpets. Replacing the carpet can be rather expensive, so using some carpet cleaning tips to keep your carpet looking fresh and clean can save you time and money.

Tip #1  – Doorways

Doormats go a long way in protecting the carpet from dirt and debris that can get tracked in from the outside. Not only should you have one on the outside of the doorway, but place one inside as well. There are a wide variety of designs for doormats and you can usually find one that will best fit your décor. But  you need to also look at the functionality of the mat, make sure it is going to remove the dirt and debris from people’s shoes at they enter your house. By stopping the dirt at the door you can help keep the carpet clean and free of dirt stains.

Tip #2 – Spills and Stains

The easiest way to keep your carpets looking fresh and clean is to prevent spills from turning into stains. If you enlist the help of the entire family, this process can be really easy. Whoever creates the spill should immediately go and get a rag to start sopping up the liquid. If they are too young to use any cleaner, then an adult should help them with the clean up. The quicker you get to a spill, the less chance it has to turning into a stain that will harder to remove later.

Tip #3 – Pet Stains

If you have pets, the chances are they have probably had an accident or two on the carpet. Not a big deal, these types of stains are easy to clean up as long as you get to them immediately. Simply place a white rag on the wet spot and step on it to soak up the urine. Move the rag around with your foot to be sure and cover all of the area. Do this until the rag no longer turns yellow. Pour white vinegar over the area, place a clean rag over it and then place a heavy object on it, like a stack of hard back books. Leave this set for a couple of hours, this should remove the remaining liquid and the odor. If there is a slight smell left in the area, sprinkle with a generous amount of baking soda and allow to set over night. Vacuum the area to remove the baking soda and the odor.

Tip #4 – Vacuuming

Vacuuming the carpet on a regular basis is one of the easiest ways to keep your carpet looking clean. It is recommended that you vacuum the carpet twice, moving in opposite directions, in a grid like pattern. This not only will remove the surface dirt and debris, but will also remove the deep down dirt and oils that are trapped in the carpet fibers.

These are just a few carpet cleaning tips that can help extend the life of your carpet, and keep it smelling fresh and looking clean. The condition of your carpet will say a lot about your home. If it is dirty and full of stains, you may not give the impression you were hoping to give.
