Carpet Steamer Rental Help

Vacuuming your carpet weekly only removes the surface dirt that is trapped in your carpet. You can keep your carpets looking and smelling fresh by deep cleaning them once or twice a year, depending on the amount of traffic that your house has, such as children or pets. Unlike carpet shampooers, a carpet steamer does not have agitator brushes, they work by pushing hot steam into the carpet and them sucking it back out with a vacuum. You can choose to use a carpet steamer rental or buy your own residential steamer.

The way to use a carpet steamer is quite easy. Here are a few steps that you need to follow in order to properly clean your carpets with one of these machines.

  1. Remove all furniture from the room that you are going to steam clean. And then vacuum thoroughly.
  2. Treat any stains with the proper stain remover.
  3. Remove the water tank from the machine and fill it to the appropriate line with hot water. Add any cleaning solution that may be required for your unit.
  4. Start in the corner that is farthest from the exit and work in about four to six foot sections. Press the trigger on the handle to apply the steam into the carpet as you move slowly across the floor. Then go over the same area again without pushing the trigger in order to extract all of the moisture out of the carpet.
  5. Empty the dirty water and refill the hot water side if needed until the job is complete. After you are done, be sure to rinse the water tank thoroughly before storing it back in the machine.
  6. Open any windows and turn on the fan (if one is available) in order to speed up the drying process. Be sure the carpet is completely dry before moving any furniture back into the room.

Even the best carpet steamer cannot reach the deep down dirt and grime that may be trapped in your carpet. For better results you may consider using a machine that has spinning brushes that will break up the dirt first, and then use a steam cleaner to remove the remaining dirt. Do not soak the carpets with water, if all of the moisture is not removed, you can end up damaging your carpet or carpet padding. And can also lead to a build up of mold and mildew in the carpet fibers.

Before using any type of spot or stain remover on your carpet, it would be wise to check it in an inconspicuous area of the room to make sure there is no fading or bleaching action that will affect the carpet.
